at the Winsor School in Boston, MA
This summer, Youth Debate Academy is excited to return to Winsor for our sixth annual debate camp! Led by Head Coach Emily Zhang, a two-time National and International Champion, we’ll offer three programs running August 10–14, 2026:
Beginner Introduction to Public Speaking & Debate (Ages 9–11)
Designed for students eager to learn the fundamentals of speech and debate. Throughout the week, students will build confidence and core skills in body language, vocal variety, storytelling, and argumentation—culminating in a mini-debate tournament and a 5-minute persuasive speech on a real-world issue.
This program costs $800; returning students will receive a $50 discount.
Advanced Introduction to Impromptu Speaking (Ages 12–15)
Perfect for students ready to step into the fast-paced world of impromptu speaking—and an excellent next step for students who have previously completed our Beginner Introduction to Public Speaking & Debate program. Our curriculum teaches the strategies and skills essential for competitive success, including vocal variation, rapid argument building, identifying values, developing a personal niche, and more. The week concludes with a three-round tournament.
This programs costs $1,000; returning students will receive a $75 discount.
Continuing Parliamentary Debate (Ages 13–16)
Ideal for students with prior parliamentary debate experience who want to sharpen and elevate their technique. Campers will work on advanced skills such as weighing burdens and counterfactuals, spotting reasoning fallacies, and developing a distinctive debate style. This program is also a great fit for students who attended our Advanced Introduction to Parliamentary Debate in previous summers.

"It has been fun seeing how something about this camp has had Pax coming home full of creative energy which has them working on their physical art (they also do a lot of digital art). I love the way stretching and challenging oneself helps inspire other parts of our brains too. Pax was so inspired learning the story of how this camp came into being, the youth leadership aspect and getting to see that in action. They have come home talkative and excited, and shared admiration and appreciation for the work of putting together this experience" - Ariel M.
"The speed, detail and thoughtfulness of communication with parents was great, and even more so because it was clear that communication with my child AND listening to, observing, and understanding my child was really evident. Not all programs take the time to communicate so well or to really understand the participant and that makes a big difference and improved the quality of the communication with parents because you really knew and understood my child. Thank you for being so fantastic!" - Maria L.
This camp must comply with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and be licensed by the local board of health.
Who teaches this program?
Our annual debate camp is led by our Head Coach Emily Zhang. She is a rising second-year student at Harvard College, where she debates competitively for the Harvard College Debating Union. In high school, she was President of Winsor's award-winning debate team, represented Team USA twice at World Championships, and placed 2nd Overall at Worlds--securing the highest finish out of any American debater ever.
Each summer, Emily is joined by our team of award-winning student instructors. In the past, we have had a student:counselor ratio of as little as 1:3. Students will receive personalized, hands-on instruction, as well as a comprehensive progress report at the program's conclusion!
How are scholarship positions allocated?
Our scholarship opportunities are allocated on a need-basis. At Youth Debate Academy, we believe that diverse learning environments foster the development of new perspectives, which is crucial to public speaking & debate. Low-income students, students with few opportunities to pursue speech & debate, and students from underrepresented communities are all encouraged to apply!
Is this program fun?
We certainly hope so! With lots of hands-on exercises and games, students are sure to have fun and learn something new :)
