Why Debate?

Public Speaking & Debate helps students build life-long skills both inside and outside of the classroom, including: critical thinking, advocacy, and social tolerance. Students who debate are more confident and effective communicators, when giving a presentation in class, interviewing for a job, or advocating for social change! Debate sllows us to become more logical and empathetic individuals, who are able to think critically about, analyze, and understand the two sides of an argument. 

As F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.”
